Your Home’s Street Appeal

Posted: July 2nd, 2020

The exterior look of your home has a real effect on the street appeal of your home. Maybe you’ve purchased a typical 90’s brick home and have majorly updated the interior but still feel like there’s work to be done on the outside. We hear you. But by this stage, the renovation budget has likely been significantly depleted. But there’s still hope, the facade can still be treated to a major facelift even if you only have a few pennies left! Steer clear of big-ticket items like a new roof and instead look towards smaller jobs and even DIY projects.

Tips to increase your home’s street appeal:

Paint

Never underestimate a lick of paint. A colour freshen up can go a long long way, especially when the base you are working with are those 90’s beige toned bricks. When choosing your colour, pick something light and bright like white or grey tones as these colours instantly give a fresher feel. If you are undertaking the paint job yourself make sure you’ve got the right type for painting the exterior of a home.

Grass

Dull and dead grass really sucks the life out of a home’s appearance. Giving your front lawn a bit of love and TCL can bring it back from the dead and inject colour back into the front landscape of your home. If grass isn’t your thing and you don’t care for its upkeep, now is a good time to really consider if you want to keep it. A perpetually uncared for lawn will quickly draw away your home’s street appeal. Perhaps consider filling in the space with some strategically planted shrubs or aesthetically pleasing gravel.

Driveway

Is there nothing paint can’t do? Break out the buckets again and turn your attention towards the driveway. If you’ve repainted the exterior of your home n a light colour, then create a contrast by painting your driveway a dark grey or charcoal.

Garage door

Changing up your colour scheme means you need to be consistent, so it’s likely your garage door will need a freshen up too. Elevate the door’s condition and decide whether you’ll completely replace it or just repaint it. When choosing your new colour, a great option is the same colour you chose for the driveway.

Landscaping

Landscaping is notoriously expensive, so rather than splurging straight away consider small changes you can make yourself. Pull out or prune any excessively overgrown trees and plants. Paying particular attention to anything covering the porch or front windows. Doing so will instantly open up the front garden.
