InStyle Timber Thermo Cladding

Posted: August 6th, 2020

Timber cladding has always been a popular choice among homeowners, and it’s easy to see why – there is a huge variety to choose from, with each species and profile offering its own distinct, natural feel. The cladding of your home more often than not provides your first impression to visitors and guests, and as such the industry is constantly evolving to help consumers stay on trend.

One of the most popular shifts in the cladding business today is towards thermally modified timber. The thermal modification changes the cell structure of the timber> When done correctly can provide greatly increased durability and stability. It is with these advantages in mind that InStyle Timber Products has released its new line of Thermo-Claddings.

IGNITE

Charred cladding is taking off in a big way in Australia. The process of timber charring has its roots in Japan, where builders would char Sugi (Cedar) products to increase their durability. Called Shou Sugi Ban (or Yakisugi) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rzVoBog8A_4. This method not only makes the timber last longer but gives it a unique and attractive appearance.

While charring works well with Cedar and other softwoods, it presents a number of issues when using Australian Hardwoods. Firstly, many of these species are Bushfire Resisting Timbers. Meaning they are already durable and do not burn well in the first place! This results in a lengthy and costly charring process. Installation is also a problem due to the mess caused by charcoal, and potential damage to the profile due to the fire involved.

Ignite Cladding offers the appearance and durability of a traditionally charred cladding, without any of the excess cost or mess. By thermally modifying Baltic Spruce, Ignite is able to hold its own against other timber cladding systems and looks just like the real thing. The main benefit? It does this at about half of the cost!

DRIFT

Another big trend currently underway is for reclaimed timber. These jobs always look amazing, offering a unique, rustic, and timeless appearance. While many Australians would love to have their home or man-cave decked out in reclaimed cladding, supply is always the big issue. Reclaimed timber will always have a larger demand than supply, so the market must consider alternatives.

Enter Drift. Another thermally modified Spruce product uniquely milled and finished to match the appearance of genuine reclaimed timber. Not only does Drift look outstanding, but it is readily available, stable, and durable. Available in a wide board, each with its own unique patterns and markings. Drift stands high above the competition when creating a reclaimed, rustic look.

DURA-ASH

Despite the benefits of thermally modified Spruce, some projects will always call for the statement made by solid hardwood cladding. It is for these jobs that InStyle has created Dura-Ash thermally modified Shiplap.

Dura-Ash starts its life as American Ash before being heat-treated. The modification process turns the timber a rich chocolate brown. While vastly improving the rot resistance and stability of the material.

Machined into the proprietary InStyle Shiplap profile, Dura-Ash cladding offers one of the strongest and dependable cladding products on the market. Making a bold visual statement without breaking the bank.
